New York, NY June 19, 2008—For the baby who’s rocking an "Elmo’s My Homeboy" onesie, staid blue knit booties simply won’t do—shoes have got to be leather, and they’ve got to be unique. So, starting this Fall, Uncommonly Cute, the online boutique whose playfully worded onesies and t-shirts have given "voice" to speechless little individuals loath to wear anything with "trucks, ducks or puppies," will be offering Build-a-Bootie, customizable soft-soled shoes that will allow pre-verbal hipsters to express their individual "goo’s" and "ga’s" from head to toe.
"With adults customizing their Nikes, Converse and Pumas, it only seemed fair that we create some footwear options for the babies—after all, their feet are twice as likely to get noticed at the grocery store or mall!" explains Allison Friedland, Owner of Uncommonly Cute, of the line’s inspiration.
Available in three main styles—"Understated," basic soft sole; "Trend Starter," soft sole with bi-colored leather and trim; and "Page 6," a boot with shearling trim—the booties come in twelve to fourteen leather and embroidery color options (baby blue, black, brown, bubble gum, deep pink, lavender, navy blue, pink, pistachio, wheat, white, and yellow), and four to six font options. Available in sizes 0-6 months through 3 years they range in price from $37 to $45 and take about 7 to 10 days to ship. Optional designs are also available (i.e. heart, basket ball, star).
"I’m really excited about our web technology that allows customers to see the shoe being built as they select the customizations. It’s beyond simple, essentially: ‘point,’ ‘click,’ ‘admire,’ or ‘rinse and repeat’ as the case may be." says Friedland.
While the left and right shoes must say the same thing, the embroidered wording can be anything from a fun gender hint to clueless well wishers (think: "dude" or "dudette"); a personality trait ("drooler," "stinky," or "diva" come to mind); or simply the kid’s given name. Great as a thoughtful and thought provoking gift, customers are only limited by their imaginations and a 9 character limit.
